Yes, this unexplained weight loss in Mia definitely worries me. 2 lbs of loss in a large dog wouldn't be too alarming, but in Mia's case she's lost 25% of her original body weight and that should absolutely be investigated. It is never normal for a dog to lose this much weight and almost certainly indicates a medical problem. I recommend bringing Mia to the vet for evaluation. Anticipate that your vet will likely start with an exam, then will probably recommend checking a fecal sample and running bloodwork. Dramatic weight loss in young dogs can be due to problems with digestion (such as inflammatory bowel disease or pancreatic insufficiency), congenital issues (such as a liver shunt), intestinal parasites, and (less commonly) cancer, among other things. Hello there and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. Yes, I agree, Poppy does look to be a bit thin. She has a low body condition score despite, what I assume, is a normal appetite. This could be due to high activity level and the need for more nutrition in her diet, parasites can cause weight loss or lack of appropriate weight, or internal organ dysfunction (this is certainly possible although she appears to be healthy at home). Her delay in a normal heat cycle may be due to her lean body condition, it may just be normal for her as her body is changing, or there could be an internal health problem with her reproductive organs. If she is a very active dog, i would recommend to increase her nutrition level and make sure she is on a high quality diet. You could give it just a bit more time to see if her heat cycle comes within the next month of two, given her lean body condition. I would recommend to weigh her weekly or biweekly so that you will have this information about the fluctuation in her weight for Poppy's veterinarian. If these problems do not resolve - weight gain and normal heat cycle within 4-8 weeks, I would recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian. Best of luck to Poppy. She is a beautiful Whippet.

I would have repeat blood work done on Thor just to check how his body is functioning. Things can change in a year or two, and it's always a good idea to do a recheck. If his blood work comes back clean, then I would discuss with your vet if they feel he needs to gain weight or not. He may just be a skinnier dog naturally. I had a Boxer who was the runt of his litter, and he was skinny his entire life no matter how much I fed him and he was perfectly healthy as well :-)

Lymph nodes can become enlarged due to inflammation, infection or cancer. Seeing that Diamond is a boxer breed, is 7 years old, losing weight and has enlarged lymph nodes leads me to suspect something such as Lymphoma (a type of cancer) as the cause. I would recommend having this further worked up with a veterinarian and have further testing done such as a needle aspirate and cytology to help determine what it could be. This test is not that expensive and can tell a veterinarian a lot about the area tested. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
