My dog's lipoma on his abdomen is turning black. Is this normal?

Poor Baby! Due to its dark color and it's changing nature, I would have your vet take a look at it. It could just be a benign blood cyst and nothing to worry about, but it could also be a malignant tumor that needs to be safe. You are correct that lipomas generally grow very slowly. I recommend to have Jackson examined today. A rapidly growing bump is worrisome for an abscess, a foreign body reaction, an infected cyst or an aggressive cancer. Based on your picture these look like adenomas which are a benign type of skin mass. They can secrete material that is dark, but they can also occasionally become infected. Since Evie has had some behavior changes as well it would be a good idea to have your veterinarian examine the masses and confirm the diagnosis. Adenomas are benign and generally don't need to be removed unless they are infected or bothering the dog.

This may be a natural pigment change as he develops or may be related to a skin irritation such as from demodex mites or a yeast infection. If there is no heat, discomfort or itching of the area continue to monitor closely - your vet or vet nurse could take a look to put your mind at ease and advise if any investigation or treatment is recommended

This looks like hyperpigmentation. It typically occurs in lightly pigmented, sparsely haired regions as dogs get older. It can also be caused my inflammation so just make sure she is not spending too much time sunbathing and that there are no other signs like licking/scratching/lesions. This could be a benign skin tumor, and infected cyst or gland, or something more serious like a mast cell tumor or a melanoma. Because it is changing I recommend Doby be checked out by a veterinarian. If this is something that needs to be removed it will be easier on him and on your veterinarian to do it sooner when it is still small versus watching it for any changes.
