What caused my labradoodle's lip sores that cleared with antibiotics?

Lesions like this can be related to acne, folliculitis or allergies. Typically this does respond to antibiotics but if allergies are the issue, the condition can reoccur. Dogs breeds with heavy jowls/lips are more prone to this condition. Washing all the food/water dishes and all chew toys once a week can help. Your veterinarian may also carry medicated wipes the clean the area daily. Lastly, if allergies are suspected, Jax may need a special diet or even blood testing to determine the offending allergen. This could be from chewing a toy, her bowls, etc. It does not seem to be a truly pressing matter-and especially so if it does not bother her. However-if it persists or worsens, I would try calling your local vet to see if they can take a look or prescribe you some antibiotic ointment to help clear the area of secondary bacterial infection. Based on Bear's relatively young age and the photo that you have provided I would be suspicious that Bear is experiencing a mild bacterial or viral infection in this area. Puppies are often more susceptible to viruses such as the papilloma virus more than adult dogs, this virus typically forms cauliflower like growths in/around the mouth, but certain forms can be more mild and not lead to these signs. It is possible that Bear has a bacterial infection, these are usually fairly benign and self limiting. Another possibility is that Bear is experiencing sensitivity or an allergy to something in his environment leading to this lesion. Some dogs are very sensitive to certain types of food bowls or toys, and can develop these lesion secondary to this. I would recommend having Bear evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can examine the lesion and Bear's mouth. They can discuss the need for additional diagnostics such as an impression smear or gentle sampling of the area. Depending on these findings they can then make recommendations for necessary treatments such as antibiotics. Hope this helps, good luck!

That lesion looks very inflamed. It’s possible it’s a reaction to something he chewed on but an infection is also possible. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian to rule out something more severe like a tooth root abscess. He may also get medication to help heal the lesion. Best of luck.

The mass on the leg has the appearance of a histiocytoma which is a benign tumor that is common in young dogs. It will usually regress within a few weeks to a couple months. I would not be overly concerned unless it does not go away or if it starts to bother him. If they are raised wart-like things, then they are probably papilloma virus warts that again, should go away on their own. It is difficult for me to tell if they are raised from the photo. If they are not raised......I'm not quite sure what that it from. It would probably be best if you took him to the vet for an exam before you do any "home remedies" since we don't really know what we are treating. You don't want to make it worse. The only real recommendation I can give you at this stage is to get him an immune boosting supplement as both histiocytomas and papillomas can be a sign of a weak immune system. It is difficult to say what might be causing the sores without seeing what they look like and where exactly they are located, but one possibility might be that the lower teeth are cutting into the upper lip due to the teeth being misaligned (malocclusion). It is possible it is a bite or sting, or an infection. A veterinarian would also need to look inside her mouth at her teeth and the inner surface of the lip. For what it is worth, there should not be leftover antibiotics unless the veterinarian told you to stop giving them. And I definitely do not recommend giving them without being instructed by your veterinarian. Antibiotic resistance is a big problem that can be made worse by giving them when they aren't needed, or stopping them before they have been finished. If Roxy is pawing at the face, rubbing the area, I definitely recommend having it looked at to determine if it seems more likely to be infection or allergic reaction. If this just popped up and doesn't seem to be distressing her, you could wait 24 hours to see if it goes away. If she will let you, an ice cube can be rubbed over the area to decrease inflammation.
