Why is my dog limping on front leg with fur loss but still running?

It looks as if Bobby has sustained some type of injury to her leg. But based on photos alone I can not determine what caused the injury. If Bobby is still walking abnormally then I recommend that you take her in to be examined by your veterinarian. She may just have a superficial (skin) injury but it could be an injury involving the bones/joint. Your vet may recommend doing X-rays to better assess the legs. I hope this helps. If Sonnie has been limping for 2 weeks, then it is time to see your vet to see what is going on. Often when dogs have the adrenaline rush of being outside and running, they will limp less than when they are walking slowly inside, so that is not unusual. The licking you are noticing may be due to pain at that location, so hopefully your vet can find the problem and figure out treatment to make Sonnie feel better. Good luck! Limping means she is in pain. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. This could just be an allergic condition, but looking at the spotty nature of the pads, I would also be concerned that this might be an auto-immune condition called pemphigus, where the lesions are often first noticed on the footpads. Since this has been ongoing for several months, & now she is showing signs of pain, it is time to have your veterinarian evaluate the pads for what is going on. Hope all is well. Take care.

I'm sorry to hear that Zoe seems so uncomfortable! She may have experienced a soft tissue injury (strain/sprain), ligament tear, loose kneecap (luxating patella) or fracture of her hind leg. Your best bet is to take her to the vet to determine the cause of this lameness so that it can be treated appropriately. Keep Zoe restricted to a crate or very small room until her vet appointment to prevent her from running, jumping or playing as this could exacerbate any existing injury. The most common cause of hair loss on her tail and paws is underlying allergies (to fleas, food or the environment). Be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix) regularly. Bathe her with a gentle oatmeal-based dog shampoo. If she has sores and papules, there is a chance that Zoe may also have a skin infection caused by her licking/scratching. If this is the case, antibiotics or medicated shampoos may be needed. Since the lameness seems to be reoccurring, I would recommend you bring her into a veterinarian for an examination. Young dogs can often experience many conditions that can cause lameness. These can range from conditions such as panosteitis (growing pains) to congenital conditions such as elbow dysplasia, or OCD lesion of either the shoulder or elbow. Certainly a soft tissue injury (muscle strain or sprain) may also be the culprit. Regardless, it may be nice to see if the veterinarian can determine her "pain point" and localize where her lameness is coming from. They will also be able to give you prescription medications that ma help to ease her discomfort. I hope this information helps, good luck and I hope Luna gets some relief soon! :-)
