My Shih Tzu is limping after a Convenia injection. Is this normal?

There are many possible causes of lameness and an injectable antibiotic given under the skin would be very unlikely to cause it. Injuries, joint pain from fever, spinal/nerve pain and foreign bodies such as splinters would be more common. A full physical exam and xrays would be recommended and may also determine the cause of the poor appetite and vomiting

While you can see some pain after receiving vaccines, it should easy in 24-48 hours. Rest Simba. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. Do not feel the area where he got the shots. You can apply a cold compress gently to that area to see if it helps. If he is still this way in the morning, have him seen by a vet.

Poor girl. She is likely in pain from the leg and that is why she was shaking. As long as she isn't screaming out in pain, having a seizure, or having severe lethargy, you should be able to wait until morning to get her seen by your regular vet. Until you can get her in, just let her rest in a cozy quiet area of the house and leash her whenerever she goes outside to keep her from causing further injury to the leg. The vet will likely do an x-ray of her leg or bloodwork if the issue seems to be neurologic in nature. I hope that Sasha's injuries get resolved soon! Best of luck and take care.

Poor Mischa! It could be that she strained or tore a ligament, or she could be suffering from a condition known as a luxating patella. This is when the kneecap moves out of it's correct anatomical position, and it is common in toy and small breed dogs. I recommend resting Mischa for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Poor Razor sounds like he has a couple of things going on at the moment. It could be he strained or torn a ligament causing him to limp, and he's definitely in pain if he's limping. The cough could be caused by a respiratory infection or cardiac disease. I would rest him tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Do not let him on the bed, having him sleep on the floor. Take him out to toilet on a leash and bring him right back in when he's done. I would then take him into the vet in the morning for a physical exam, lameness exam, and possibly x-rays. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms and how best to treat them. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. It is possible that the injection site is hurting a bit. We inject about 1cc under the skin and sometimes a dog reacts a bit sensitive to the vaccine. This is just a temporary effect and the pain should go away within 48 hours. Sometimes there is a swelling and that should also go away within about 48 hours. If the pain and/or swelling persists you will have to take Guss to a vet to have it examined, as in very rare cases the pet can get an injection abscess that would then need to be lanced,

Usually the pain only lasts a few days. I find massaging the area helps them to feel better, also taking her for several short leash walks usually relaxed the muscle soreness that is probably causing the lameness. If the limp continues more than a few days please bring her in for an exam as that would be unusual from a vaccination and they will want to find the reason for the lameness.
