Why was my dog limp and unresponsive when I picked her up from sleep?

His doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about. She is getting older so it is udnerstandsble that she may not rouse as easily as she once did in her younger years. Also the description of events suggest she was having very vivid dreams and the eye twitching is normal when a pet is asleep. This is an indication of REM sleep. Also pets are often limp when they are completely asleep. However if you still are concerned about Precious, then there are no issues with taking her in to your vet for a standard physical exam to ensure she is in healthy condition.

Hello, Bullet may have been in a heavy asleep. Its less likely that he had any other more serious condition especially since he woke up when you called on him. More severe causes that may cause fainting or collapsing episodes may be associated with heart or blood pressure problems. If you note any fainting or collapsing episodes then Bullet should be evaluated by his veterinarian. Puppies do tend to sleep very deeply and they do dream more than adult dogs. I recommend to record one of these episodes. Start filing before you begin to stimulate her and then record the entire session until she is fully awake. Show it to her veterinarian. This will help to give a better idea of pathology or not. Dogs approaching Murphy's age frequently experience hearing loss, so it could be that saying his name isn't enough to wake him anymore, because he just doesn't hear it while he's sleeping. I do think that older pets are more difficult to rouse as well, however if Murphy hasn't seen his vet for a thorough checkup recently, this is something I'd schedule, and definitely mention at the visit. Her reduced activity level may be due to the lameness or arthritis pain. I recommend a veterinary exam for the lameness. They will feel her neck shoulder and the rest of the leg to determine the cause. They may also do X-rays to look for bone and joint problems. If they think Ruby is painful they can prescribe pain medication. I don't like older dogs to get too lazy and not exercise since they can gain weight and lose muscle mass which makes the lameness worse. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. If she is otherwise normal, then I recommend keeping her very quite. Carry her if you are able or take her outside on a leash. No running, jumping, stairs or playing. Many causes of mild lameness can resolve without treatment. However, if the lameness gets worse, she is not acting normal or the lameness does not resolve, then she needs to see her veterinarian.
