My dog keeps licking her tail wound. Should I use a cone to heal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 40 lbs

My pup has a bad cut on her tail and keeps licking/biting off the scab. I put dog antiseptic on it about 3-4 times a day and wash it everytime after we play outside. Should I put a cone on to stop her from biting it to let it heal?

Yes, Minnie should be wearing an Elizabethan collar at all times until the wound is completely healed. Make sure to avoid trauma to the wound such as hitting the tail against the wall. If it does not start to improve within one week or if it starts getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps.
