Why is my dog licking his red inner thighs? Should I see a vet?

My dog has been licking his inner thighs alot recently and it's all red should I be worried

If it is continual and bothering him, then I would get him checked by a vet as they can over do it and cause a hot spot there and an infection. Often times it can be from an allergy to the environment or something he came in contact with or a bug bite to start. You can try a bath at home to help rinse the area and provide some relief until you can get him checked

Many times redness on the belly,groin, and thighs is caused by underlying allergies. The allergy can be to something in the environment, to food , or even to fleas. They lick the area because they feel so itchy. You can give him cool baths to help soothe the skin and you could try antibacterial wipes on the area. But he will likely need to be seen by his veterinarian for special medicated shampoos or possibly even oral antibiotics or allergy medication. I hope his skin improves soon!

Ouch! That definitely looks like an allergic reaction that is trending toward a bacterial infection with the big red welts. I'd have Hazel brought into your vet for an exam of the spots, and antibiotics as needed. In the meantime, keeping her from licking or chewing at the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar or T-shirt over the spot is best to avoid allowing more bacteria into the irritation.

Food allergies can cause red welts like this along the inner thighs and bellies, as well as environmental allergens. Your vet will likely suggest a general antihistamine/allergy med to try first, unless they suspect a food allergy, in which case a food trial may help as well.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. Not only the vaginal area is inflamed but it seems that the ventral abdomen is involved as well. She is probably itchy but these redness areas do not seem inflamed because of the rubbing. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). My dog's private area is red and he won't stop licking it. Help!

It would a good idea to put an Ecollar on Otis to keep him from licking the area, as that will make it worse. Oatmeals baths or an Epsom salt bath may help as well. He could have an allergic reaction causing the redness or he could have a bacterial or fungal infection. It would be a good idea to have him checked out by the vet over the weekend, as there may be medications needed to help treat the redness. I would see if you can get him into the vet this weekend; if not, I would take him in on Monday if the redness is still present. I hope this helps!

My dog's front paw is sore and he keeps licking it. What's wrong?

It looks like he might have chewed a hot spot onto his foot. It may have started with a minor scratch or bug bite or allergies. That itched, he chewed it, which irritated the area, which makes it itch more, and so on. I recommend getting him seen by your vet soon to have his skin checked. After an exam and possibly some lab work, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and how best to treat it.
