Dog has inflamed, sore leg spot he's licking. When to see vet?

I recommend to have Pookie examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon.

I would recommend that Spoko have this bump checked out. It could be anything from a skin tag or wart that gets irritated because he licks, to an infection or foreign body (something stuck under the skin), to a small tumor. After examination, a vet may decide to collect a small sample of cells to look at under a microscope to hopefully determine the cause so that an appropriate treatment plan can be created. While you wait for his appointment, try to keep Spoko from licking the bump; he may need to wear an e-collar/cone to prevent this.

This could be a lick granuloma /hot spot. However, it is impossible to say without actually looking at the lesion. this could also be a little tumor or infection. Your boyfriend will need to keep the dog from licking the lesion and take Maxxy to a vet for an exam and treatment. If it is a lick granuloma, then the vet will prescribe antibiotics over a longer period of time, possibly inject the lesion with steroids and the dog will need to wear an e-collar until it is gone. Sometimes boredom can aggravate the licking.

It could be a Mast Cell tumor (which is a cancerous growth that should be removed and biopsied), a cyst, a histiocytoma (though he is a bit old for that, they end to occur in younger dogs). Any skin bumps that is new, rapidly grows, changes or is possibly infected should be checked by a Vet. They can decide whether it should be aspirated and sent to the lab or removed surgically to send the entire specimen for biopsy. I hope this helps and I wish Boston the very best!

Poor Miggy! That lesion on his skin could be due to many things including a bacterial infection, east infection, allergies or flea bites. You need to protect the area from licking as this will make it worse. Have him wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area with soap and rinse it well once a day. If the area does not start looking significantly better in one week or if it looks worse at any point, have him seen by his veterinarian. Unfortunately it is hard to tell what that lump is just by the picture. I would recommend you take her in to see your vet for an exam and potentially a fine needle aspirate of this lump. A fine needle aspirate is a way to try to exfoliate cells from the lump and look at them under the microscope to try to tell what this lump is. Even if it is a benign lump, she may need to have it removed if she continues to lick it. She also may need topical treatment or potentially antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatories if the lump is infected or causing her pain. I often recommend taking lumps off of legs sooner, as they are easier and generally less expensive to remove and close the skin when they are small. Large lumps on limbs can be quite difficult to remove, as there isn't much additional skin in this area to close over the wound.

Ouch! Definitely something that should be checked out by your regular vet ASAP. Certain types of tumors such as mast cell tumors, hemangiomas, injuries, blood blisters, etc can all appear like this, and so it should be looked at and biopsied to see what is going on. Until you can get to your vet in the morning, keeping Berkeley from licking or chewing on the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar is best to reduce any further injury or irritation.
