Is it safe for my dog to lick peanut butter off my son's face?

A little bit of peanut butter here and there to encourage your pet to either take special medication or behave at the vet is ok to do. However I wouldn't make it a go-to treat because it is very fattening and can also lead to pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas) over time if it is given in excess. While I'm sure the game would be funny and entetaining. I do have a few concerns. There is always the potential for a person to accidentally be bitten on the face if the dog is over stimulated while trying to lick the food. Secondly, the dog could develop vomiting and diarrhea from too many snacks of human food. Finally, while it is uncommon, dogs can spread parasites to humans.

Peanut butter is fine in small amounts. Too much fat causes pancreatitis in dogs. Never give Chance sugar free peanut butter, as it may contain xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs. Yes, both of these foods are safe for dogs - there's no reason that you couldn't give them every day, in small amounts as a treat. Just make sure that you're not using a sugar-free brand of peanut butter, as some of these contain xylitol which is toxic for dogs. Most "regular" peanut butter brands are fine :)

Hello. I am so glad you checked to make sure the peanut butter did not contain any xylitol. Xylitol can cause a dog's blood sugar to drop dangerously low, so it is important to avoid this. Too much PB for Chewy has the same risk as too much PB for us. It will make you fat. So, try to place no more than a teaspoon in the ball, & not a heaping teaspoon & do this only once a day. It is not ideal to allow a dog to lick the inside of you or your kid's mouths but it is not the end of the world. I doubt your son will get ill from this. Just don't let it happen again. Also make sure Max has been properly dewormed so he doesn't transmit anything to your children.
