What's causing my dog's itchy, flaky rash, hair loss, and red skin?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 months and 14 days old | 14.5 lbs

My dog is having yellowish-green flaky rash sort of thing over his belly area and legs he is almost busy all the time scratching which leaves the area red after being scratched...he has also started to lose hair from these regions and the hairs have become too less sort of disappearing

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From your description, it sounds as though Jojo is fighting a bacterial skin infection. It is hard to say for sure without pictures being unable to examine him. I would recommend a chlorhexidine based shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. A spray such as malacetic conditioning spray should also be used and applied to the affected area 2-3 times daily until resolved. These can be found online quite easily and if you are unable to get these delivered to your area, something comparable should suffice. If the skin condition worsens I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jojo. I agree that the skin does appear infected. He should see his veterinarian for skin testing. Mites such as demodex are common in young animals. Ringworm can cause crusty lesions and hairloss as well. Finally, an allergy to his diet is possible or to something in environment. Allergies are generally accompanied by intense itching. In the meantime, you can bathe him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. I hope this information helps!

There are some things that you can do at home if you are unable to get to a vet right away. I would suggest starting with a shampoo that is medicated such as Duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination and bathe him twice weekly until the infection is resolved. I would also suggest starting welactin omega-3 fish oil and essential 6 Spot On by dermoscent. If there is no improvement then I would see your vet for further testing and treatments. Now, whether or not the skin infection is due to skin parasites, bacteria or Yeast is difficult for me to say by looking at the pictures. I would suggest having a veterinarian examine him in order to get a diagnosis for the most appropriate treatment. Treatment will likely consist of antibiotics, antifungal drugs and topical therapy. If you are unable to get to the veterinarian right away, I would suggest starting a medicated shampoo such as Duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. My dog has an itchy, red, smelly rash under his body. What's wrong?

Poor Mojo! This sounds quite uncomfortable! Due to red, itchy, and smelly skin, it is possible that Mojo has developed a fungal and/or bacterial skin infection. Skin infections most commonly occur with underlying allergies to fleas, food or the environment. New allergies can develop at any age. At this point, Mojo should see his vet for an exam so that his skin can be evaluated. He may need antibiotics, antifungals, and anti-itch medications to allow this issue to resolve. I hope he feels better soon!

Dog has red rash & scabs in groin after baths. What's the cause?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a skin infection. This may be due to an underlying allergy. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks.
