That is a great start! I would consider trying a different flea medication if it doesn't clear up soon and consider treating your house with Flea Busters powder. At his age I would also consider a thyroid panel and/or prescription medications if it does not resolve with what you are currently doing. I hope this helps!

It can take some time for the fleas to completely die off. You might talk to your vet about a round of Apoquel or prednisone to help with the itching until the fleas are completely gone. Benadryl won't really help in this situation. You could also try an oatmeal pet shampoo.
