Why is my dog so hyper on the couch after a long walk or exercise?

I see that Tikka is a young dog, of a very high energy breed - so it's very normal and expected that she will get wild and "bitey" on occasion :). If she has a crate that she is comfortable in, I would suggest giving her some type of special treat such as a bully stick, rawhide, or a Kong stuffed with peanut butter in her crate when she starts to get crazy - this is not meant as a punishment, but simply as a way to help her calm down and relax. Chewing is a very calming activity for dogs. Make sure that you teach her to go into her crate happily for a treat when you ask her to, so that it's easy to do this when she's overly excited. I would not recommend grabbing and pinning her, as this is likely to make her try and avoid you and may also increase her frustration when she is like this. Some dogs will even be one aggressive and start to bite with this kind of handling. It's much better to calmly redirect her to another activity in a positive way.

Django sounds like he has quite the energy! Seeing as he is 3.5 months old, it is common at this age to have bursts of energy and periods of napping. This can be lessened by providing a lot of toys and enrichment in the house to keep him busy. Walking certainly helps but giving him plenty of toys to play with may also help reduce these bursts of energy. Eventually, Django will likely grow out of this but it will take some time. Increased exercise can help. Walking (not running in a park or yard) for at least 30 minutes twice a day (some dogs need much more), doing basic training to give her mental stimulation, using puzzle toys to feed her meals, and scheduling 10 minutes of cuddling/grooming time a day can all help. Excess energy may cause restlessness in some dogs, and an increase in energy is always a good idea to help get that energy out. You may also want to schedule a vet check up if one hasn't been done to make sure there isn't a health cause as behavioral changes can sometimes be attributed to health issues. If pup checks out healthy, an increase in activity and looking out for any potential stressors such as other pets, people, and even new items in the house may alert you to the cause.

Hello, and thank you for your question! You did not state the age of your dog, but I am assuming he is young. High energy is common for many young, large breed dogs. My advice would be to try to get his energy out throughout the day, through several hour-long walks and play sessions in the park. This will hopefully reduce his manic energy in the house! If you work all day and have minimal time, enlist the help of a dog walker or friend who can come by during the day to take Eldridge out for some fresh air. Pets create different bonds with people. It’s possible Hazel associates you with play time so she gets more hyper and acts out when she becomes bored or frustrated. She is still a puppy and high activity is normal. Try to give her consistent and structured exercise everyday. Maybe that happens when you get home so that Hazel has a immediate outlet for the energy and when she gets home, she will be more calm. She could be itchy - some dogs with allergies can have itchy skin after going outside. This could also be how she reacts to being stimulated by exercise. If you think she may be itchy or if her skin looks red after going outside you could see if your veterinarian can recommend an oral or topical medication to help her feel more comfortable.
