Is human chafing cream suitable for my dog's severe thigh rash?

Hello. This is very typical of an allergic dermatitis reaction. Your treatment is appropriate so just continue until the skin is fully healed. Then, at the first sign of it coming back, start the cream again. You should also contact your veterinarian to see if the newer anti-allergy medications like Apoquel or Cytopoint would be appropriate to prevent these flare ups from happening. It does look like a skin infection but the origin (bacterial, fungal, yeast) I don't know just by looking at it. If it is bacterial, sometimes oral antibiotics are needed if topical therapy is not working. I don't know what cream you are using as I am not aware of a chlorhexidine cream, or how long you have been using it, so it's hard for me to comment much more on what you are already doing. I personally like these chlorhexidine wipes because they also contain an anti-fungal/anti-yeast component (climabazole) and a component to help repair the skin (phytosphingosine) so it is gentle. So, if she is licking, you will need to get an E-collar (cone) for her to wear until this is healed. So, if you want to try the medicated pads, I would do that. Skin maladies typically take quite a long time to respond completely to treatment so as long as it's not bothering her too much just continue on for a few more weeks. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). It does happen to some dogs, particularly during warm months. Please, get a baby diaper rash cream or ointment and use it twice a day for 6-7 days. Make sure that you get a fragrance free one without vitamins or supplements (most of baby rash products are like that). If that doesn't help you will have to take Tucker to your vet to get a cream with an anti-inflammatory agent.

It is safe but it is not likely to help. your dog is probably suffering from an allergic reaction, often a secondary infection develops after a few days as well. Buddie will need allergy meds and possibly antibiotics to get some relief.

HI, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Summer! Your Vet has tried a lot. My suggestion at this point is to see a dermatologist. I would have him on Nexgard or Bravecto to cover fleas, demodex and scabies despite the injections. I would start an omega 3 fish oil (see link). I would also do several seeks of an antibiotic and antiyeast. I would also use cytopoint. The dermatolgist can do skin testing as well for environmental allergies. You can try a thin layer of the quadriderm cream on the areas once daily but he can not lick it so you have to use an E-collar. It also will only help the symptoms you see not the underlying cause of his allergies. Do not use it for more than 1 week.
