Can hookworms cause my dog's intestines to look bunched up on X-ray?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 66 lbs

My was recently diagnosed with intestinal parasites called hook worm. the vets also did an X-ray and showed a little concern to a small area where her intestines look bunched up, they asked if she swallows things and I said she likes to eat her toys but always poops them out and I make sure of that. They didn't know what could be causing what they saw on the X-ray since it wasn't really big or obvious, my question is if these intestine parasites can do that to the intestines?

Typically, no, hookworms will not cause the intensities to become bunched. There are some parasites, specifically whipworms, that can cause an intusseception (where the bowel folds in on itself) but this usually causes severe illness (vomiting and diarrhea).

Based on the X-rays, it does not look like your dog has any sort of intestinal blockage. If your dog is vomiting or having diarrhea for more than 24-48 hours after being treated for worms, then she will need to be checked out again by your vet.

My sick dog's X-ray shows empty bowel. Is it an intestinal blockage?

Poor Fox! Most often if your dog has an intestinal blockage he is doing a lot of constant or consistent vomiting. One or two episodes of vomiting is unlikely to mean a blockage. If his bowel looks empty on X-ray, and there is no sign of gas distention on X-ray, there is unlikely a blockage and something else is causing his issues. He may need full bloodwork, urinalysis, and abdominal ultrasound to figure out what is going on. Hope that helps!

Why does my puppy have soft stools that look like chicken intestine?

This is very concerning as it appears to contain blood, mucus and possibly bowel lining. I recommend an oral worm medication, a specialist intestinal or hydrolyzed diet for 6 weeks and a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora to rebalance the bowel and rule out any parasitic causes. A full health check, blood tests and possibly ultrasound/xray if not responding or any weight loss, vomiting or weakness is noted

Is my dog's hookworm deworming treatment normal for a 1-year-old pup?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many ways to treat things that are all appropriate. The dose of dewormer is weight dependent so if the same drug was used it is likely the new dog weighs more or they used a different dewormer. A lot of vets use the heart worm prevention as a dewormer because it also takes care of intestinal parasites. It is really Vet preference. I hope this helps!

Puppy worms, inconsistent bloody poop. Is Interceptor enough?

Interceptor does treat some intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms, so it's possible that this may resolve the problem. If you don't see any improvement in his stool in the next 2-3 days, it would be best to take a fecal sample to your vet for testing - some types of intestinal parasites, such as tapeworms or coccidia, are not covered by Interceptor and would require a separate medication from your vet to treat.

Why is my dog having loose stools and not drinking after hookworms?

How long ago was she treated for Hookworms? Did she receive a second treatment? Typically with Hookworms two treatments are needed. I would also recommend rechecking a stool to make sure she doesn't have any other type of parasites. Did she get into anything recently or any type of new food?
