My dog has hookworm & plays in litter box. Should my cat be treated?

Hookworms are commonly spread by fecal/oral route. Clean the litter box daily and wash your hands afterwards to minimize contamination. it is best to wash bedding and clean the floors just to be safe.

I advised washing your hands after playing with your puppy and washing your feet/taking showers regularly if you think your yard is infested with hookworms. If however, loose stool/diarrhea persist, it would then be recommended to have an additional fecal exam performed to determine if there is still an intestinal parasite present. Once the treatment is complete, it should be safe to let the cat out of the crate but make sure to clean the litter pan well, specially if there are other cats in the home.
