My dog's testicle is hanging after home neuter. How to care for wound?

While this cannot be sutured back in place for now as it is infected and inflamed, the ultimate goal would be to treat this wound aggressively and it can improve. This is not something that can be treated at home. This will require surgical debridement, cleaning and antibiotics. This is also painful and pain control medications need to be considered as well. Some vets use a technique involving making an incision directly along the scrotum, and some vets use a technique involving an incision between the penis and scrotum. As long as it is kept clean and dry and Scooby wears a cone to reduce the risk of him licking the area, hopefully it should heal up fine, no matter what technique your vet used!

There is nothing OTC you can give safely. Many human medications are toxic to dogs or easily overdosed. The best you can do now is place an e-collar (cone) on Murphy to prevent licking and keep the area clean. You can use a diluted betadine or chlorhexidine solution to clean the area gently. Murphy is likely in dire need of antibiotics (and pain management) so get him in as soon as possible. The area should be biopsies to rule out any cancer given Murphy's age and the condition. While there are certainly things you can do at home, the would appears to be badly infected and may become significantly worse without medications. I would definitely encourage you to obtain your dog's temperature at home to check for a fever. Anything above 102.5 is considered elevated. It also appears that the edges of the wound are somewhat blackened and may require trimming in order to heal appropriately. The only things you are going to be able to do at home is to clean the area with an antiseptic like chlorhexidine or dilute betadine, and apply a topical antibiotic ointment. You can also obtain an e-collar from a store or veterinarian to prevent Tito from licking the wound. However, I would strongly encourage you to seek out a veterinarian who is willing to work with you financially or for you to obtain a payment plan through a company like CareCredit. Poor Ben! You should keep the ecollar on as a deterrent to lo licking, keep the area as clean and dry as possible and you can try warm compressing the area. Do not give human medication as it can be very toxic. You should continue with your plan to see his veterinarian tomorrow.

If the skin was damaged to the point that the testicles are exposed your dog must be seen by a veterinarian right away to assess whether the testicles can be saved and repaired, or whether he needs to have the damaged testicle(s) removed. This will likely also be infected. Please take your dog to a Pet ER now.

That looks fine for the stage it's at. Rather than cover the wound with a bandage, I would put an e-collar or an inflatable collar on him that will keep him from licking at it, unless he's getting to it with his hind claws. In that case you can put baby socks on his hind feet to keep his claws from getting into the staples. If you do keep it covered, change the bandage daily or twice daily if the wound oozes a bit.
