My dog has hives and swollen face from meds, can't afford vet. Help!

I am sorry you lost your job! It sounds like Freya is having an allergic reaction, and the problem with the ones that happen on a dog's face is that their face can swell to a point where they start having breathing difficulties. She does have to see a vet right away, she will need either antihistamines or steroids to stop the reaction. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jamo! It sounds like Jamo is having an allergic reaction and the raised red bumps are hives. Another possibility is a skin infection. Hives could be from an insect bite, a reaction to something she ate or an environmental allergen. Boxers tend to be a sensitive breed! Ideally I recommend that you bring her to your Vet to have her looked at, I understand your financial dilemma. They will know best the difference between an infection and hives. An infection requires antibiotics while hives from an allergic reaction require steroids and an antihistamine. You could try 2 tablets of 25mg generic benadryl every 8 hours. Just make sure there are no other drugs or decongestants in the benadryl. I wish you the best of luck

Hello. Most likely Yuki was bitten or stung by something. She may have snapped at a bee or wasp flying by & it is not uncommon to get stung inside the mouth. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Stella! We routinely don't use epinephrine in anaphylactic reactions in animals. Usually injectable benadryl and steroids are given. If the animals blood pressure is low we hospitalize for IV fluids. And they usually do great with a few hours. Stella should be taken to a Vet ASAP. Common signs of an allergic reaction are hives, facial swelling, vomiting, diarrhea and rarely collapse. Epi-pens are prescription and a vet would need to prescribe it in order for a pharmacy to give you one. From what I know they are expensive. I hope this helps and I wish Stella the best!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Even though she could have mange like you suggest, usually this is very itchy. If she is not itchy then that would be unlikely. If this was an allergic reaction it may take a bit longer to get better. I would give this another 48 hours. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure it is not something else like mites for example. Good luck and have a great night!
