My golden has a hairless spot on her face. Could it be a dog bite?

This looks like an area of moist dermatitis, or hot spot. They get these from licking or rubbing an area of skin that was irritated from an insect bite, allergy or injury. To treat this I recommend trimming the fur around the area, then cleaning off the discharge with warm water and antibacterial soap. Once it’s rinsed and dried you can apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. The most important thing is to prevent her from scratching or rubbing this area so it can heal. Use a cone if needed. If it’s not improving then I recommend a veterinary exam and treatment. They may give medication to prevent the itching, and possible a topical spray or ointment to dry up the skin. Hot spots are common in Goldens so I’d have a cone and medication on hand to treat these at home before they get bad. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is difficult to say from the pictures what this could be for sure. My suspicion is that this is a local reaction to an insect bite or sting. Other trauma might include something that poked into the skin and cause irritation. I would clean the are with diluted Betadine in sterile saline (a light brown mixture should result) and monitor. If it is worsening I would have a vet examine this. You can also give adult benadryl. The dose is typically 1mg per 1 lb of bodyweight every 12 hours. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hair loss could be several things including allergies, skin mites, flea bites, ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash her whole body, just those spots). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. If they don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have Marley examined by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications. Hi, it looks like a cyst and it should heal on its own if the area is cleaned andhai around it clipped. I would also make sure that Ossi is comfortable as the skin looks extremley red. If with clipping and cleaning things do not seem to improve, Olli might need stronger medications. Hope this helps.

Poor Masha! This looks like a relatively minor skin wound, from what I can tell in the photos. It's possible that her skin may have been accidentally nicked or caught in the clippers during her haircut yesterday - it's very easy for this to happen in small dogs with delicate skin. She also could have scraped or poked herself on something, or this could be a local inflammatory reaction to some type of insect bite. If this is the only spot like this you can see and she is acting normal otherwise, you could opt to monitor it for the next few days to see if it heals up on its own. You could also use a topical antibiotic spray such as Vetericyn or Nutri-Vet on the area as well, if you wish. If it does not seem to be healing within 5-7 days, or if the area around the wound becomes red and swollen, then it would be best to have her seen by a vet - in that case, she would likely need prescription antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to treat the problem.

Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. This could be from chewing a toy, her bowls, etc. It does not seem to be a truly pressing matter-and especially so if it does not bother her. However-if it persists or worsens, I would try calling your local vet to see if they can take a look or prescribe you some antibiotic ointment to help clear the area of secondary bacterial infection.
