How can I help my dog get used to wearing a dress or clothes?

It will take time and patience. Pants would not be recommended because it would make elimination difficult for Beaux. Shirts, jackets and sweaters are popular, especially in colder climes. Get an appropriate size. Not too tight and not loose. Dress him up and use praise, reward and distraction until he acclimates.

Normally Havanese have enough hair not to be cold and would not need a sweater. A sweater may be itchy and restricting. If you really think Kiba needs to wear a sweater, make sure it is not too tight, and put it on often, so he gets used to it, but do not leave it on for long. It is also important that he is also well brushed and has no mats. Combine the wearing of the sweater with something he likes to do, ie going for a walk or starting to play with a ball. Make putting a sweater on a ritual before the fun activity so he makes a connection.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center! This is actually quite common. The trick is to make them associate this with something positive. What I have found to be very helpful is to start by just using the sweater for an hour or two at a time initially and to give her treats during that time to make her experience with it enjoyable. You can continue to increase the amount of time she has it on until you are able to keep it on for however long you need. This is very likely to help with this issue. Hello. The best thing to do is start slow & put the harness on for a few minutes 2-3 times a day. Reward her with many treats & lots of petting to calm her. Then attach a leash & just let her drag it around for a few days. Once she seems comfortable, ask her to follow or approach you while gently pulling on the leash. I always have a tasty treat in my hand to encourage her. With just a little time & patience, all dogs will get used to being on a leash & harness. Try using a simple leash and collar. Gradually acclimate her to the harness by leaving it out in plain sight. Do not force the harness on her until she is acclimated. This should be done in steps: let her see it, let her sniff and touch it, lay it on her for short periods then try placing it on her. A pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar or DAP diffuser may decrease any anxiety. Use plenty of praise and rewards as she progresses. Be patient and don't force her to wear the harness until she is ready.

This actually is not particularly unusual - while many dogs enjoy playing with other dogs, some dogs definitely prefer people. The dog park can be overwhelming even for social dogs so I would recommend avoiding it for now - if she continues to feel overwhelmed she could start to become fear aggressive. You may want to start by meeting one on one with a quiet dog friend to get her used to dogs. Make sure it is a good experience by offering treats, and if she starts to become too anxious stop and try again another day. She may never get to the point where she loves other dogs that are not familiar, but hopefully you can find a few dogs that she knows and will play with.

Sounds like the collar may still be pretty scary for your pup! Some puppies may also just be very excited and become wiggly or nip/chew on you in excitement. Here are a few things you can do: Leave the collar/harness on the floor and let your puppy approach it first on his own. Toss a treat and give lots of praise any time he shows interest in it or sniffs it. Practice handling your puppy around the neck and shoulders by petting, playing with, cuddling, etc and giving a favorite treat and praise every time you do this so he begins to associate it with a positive experience. Practice snapping a collar/harness closed next to your pup but not on him, offering a treat and praise every time he is curious about it. Practice sitting while placing the collar or harness on, and giving a treat every time you do. If puppy becomes too wiggly or excited, take a break and try again in a few minutes. Offer extra treas and lots of praise when he successfully puts on and wear the collar, even if it's only for a few minutes.
