What dog food for skin bumps, urinary crystals? Royal Canin, Hills?

There are several types of food allergy. If you have not had any luck with the brands you have tried, I recommend to try a prescription brand made by Royal Canin called Ultamino. The protein is broken down to the amino acid level, thus it will not trigger an immune response. Basically you need to feed this diet for 8 to 12 weeks. During this time she cannot eat anything else. No treats, no canned food, nothing. At the end of the 8 to 12 weeks, if her skin is all cleared up, then you know it is food. I believe Royal Canin now makes a hypoallergenic diet that is also appropriate for crystals that has hydrolyzed proteins so the immune system does not recognize them and they do not trigger allergies. Even though the ingredient list might contain some things Dylan is allergic to, he should not develop allergy symptoms. This diet is called Multifunction Urinary and Hydrolyzed Protein. Talk to your veterinarian and see if this might be a good option for Dylan with his specific crystals. Otherwise you could discuss having a nutritionist formulate a home cooked diet, but it is very important that a veterinary nutritionist is involved so that the diet is balanced and appropriate to prevent crystal formation.

It does sound like from your description that Crayon (love her name!) may be allergic to something in the food causing her skin reaction. I'm wondering if you are talking about Blue Buffalo dog food. I personally do not like that food, it's not that good quality, and they have problems with quality control because they don't own the factories that make their food. I recommend trying Orijen or Acana. They are much better quality than Blue Buffalo, and they own their own factories to make their food so the quality control is much better.

I would make sure that Mojo is on proper flea medication. If he has environmental allergies, you can consider trying some Benadryl for now. There are other medications that can help mitigate environmental allergies. I would visit your veterinarian to find out what may be best for Mojo. Food allergies are also definitely possible as well. Dogs can get food allergies even if they have been on the same food for a while. Typically they are allergic to the protein in the food.
