Do dog food allergies make them more likely to get sarcoptic mange?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Can allergies in dogs (specifically food allergies) make a dog more susceptible to Sarcoptic Mange? Or are they completely unrelated (despite Sarcoptic Mange being commonly misdiagnosed as allergies)?

The only reason I would think a dog that is more susceptible to sarcoptic mange would be if they have a lot of scabs or infections secondary to allergies therefore making there skin more likely to contract it. But more commonly dogs that have poor immune systems like puppies are more likely to contract it. I hope this helps and answers your question. If not, please write back with more details.
