My dog follows me everywhere. Is this normal dog behavior or concern?

Poor Littlebit! Is there a scary or traumatic even that could have happened a few months ago that could have changed his behavior? Or a change in the household (new people, kids now crawling/walking, new pets, construction, etc) or household routines (you're home more or less than normal, change in work schedule, etc)? All of these things could cause a little anxiety or neediness. You could try to give her some Benadryl to see if this calms her. You could also do a pheromone calming collar like adaptil. If this does not help, I would talk to your vet about looking at her to ensure nothing else is going on and possbily starting her on an anti-anxiety medicine. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better really soon.!

Hi there. It sounds as if Maxx has bonded very closely anybody you. Some of our pets create bonds more strongly with their owners than others-some to the point of generalized anxiety if they think their owner is going to go away without them. Often these behaviors start after you've been on a trip and return, or have been out of the home longer for another reason. He misses you-remember you're the biggest part of his day. Dogs are very sensitive to their owners moods, and she's clearly picking up that when you are upset, you need love and attention to feel better. That is why she wants you to pick her up, so she can show you that she loves you. It is a normal thing, dogs can be very attuned to their owners. I had a dog who has since passed away, but when I went through a rough time in my life about five years back, she never left my side. I spent many hours with her head in my lap as she comforted me. You are very lucky to have such a wonderful girl like Bella!

Poor Bella Boo! She definitely could be depressed due to the change in the household. Dogs also can feel our stress. You can try to put a calming collar on her like adaptil. If this isn’t working or if she gets worse, I would have your vet look at her to be safe. Your vet will be able to ensure nothing else is wrong like pain or an infection somewhere. If everything checks out normal, your vet can prescribe her an anti-anxiety to help her adjust. I hope this helps!

Hello, sorry to hear about Bella. Dogs may indeed sense a change in people which can than indirectly affect their behaviors. However, I would recommend having Bella evaluated as she may herself be undergoing a false pregnancy. This could cause behavioral changes in her as well. Other health issues that may cause her to have behavioral changes but are less likely may include cushings disease. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! How old is Sara? Is she spayed? If you find this a good thing then that's great! It could be that she is calming down and is less rambunctious. Or she could be anxious about something (thunder storms or the July 4th fireworks). If she is not spayed and a had a heat recently sometimes female dogs can have a hormonal imbalance where the body is made to think it is pregnant (but it isn't) and the dog can be more anxious and clingy. They can carry one stuffed animal around like a baby, have mammary gland development and even have milk develop. It does go away. Have a good day!
