My dog has a fleshy lump under armpit, no pain. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 3 months old

My 9 year old Staffordshire bull terrier has a fleshy lump under his armpit about 4cms long it's not red or inflamed and isn't causing him any discomfort. He is eating and drinking normally and exercising everyday as usual with no difficulty at all. Need advice as to what it might be and should I see a vet

There are a couple of things this lump could be on Titan. It could be a cyst, an access, a lipoma, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Titan seen by a vet today or tomorrow to have the lump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated if needed.

The lump you are seeing is very possibly a lipoma. These are benign fatty tumors that are not uncommon on older dogs. It’s best to have them checked by your vet to make sure they aren’t something more serious. Lipomas generally are not removed unless they impede movement or are located in an area where they could become irritated or injured. If you dog requires any anesthetic procedure in the future, such as a dental cleaning, the lipoma can be removed at that time, getting two procedures done with one anesthetic event and thereby reducing the risk.

This lump could be a cyst or an abscess. I recommend taking Roxy into the vet tomorrow for an exam. The vet can do a physical exam, and can do a fine needle aspirate on the lump. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. If it is a cyst, it will need to be drained, and it may need to be removed in order to keep it from returning. An abscess will require it to be drained and flushed sterilely, and she would need antibiotics to treat the infection.

My dog has a new, red, hard lump in his armpit. Should I worry?

This is most of the time differentiated with a test called a fine needle aspirate which is easy, cheap and pain-free. Sometimes, a biopsy is required for a diagnosis. Have Panzer evaluated by your veterinarian to have this test performed to try to sort out what the diagnosis is so that the best course of action can be determined. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign!

What is this painful pink lump on my 3-month-old puppy's armpit?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. Given his young age, this could just be a small abscess or site of infection. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. This could be a seroma from an injury, a cyst, abscess or a tumor. Cysts and abscesses need to be drained by a vet. If your vet suspects a tumor, he will do a fine needle aspirate to determine whether it is a harmless lipoma, which does not need to be removed unless it is ulcerating or bothers the dog due to its location or size, or another tumor that needs to be removed. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam of the mass.
