My dog has fleas and they're in my house. What are effective remedies?

  Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Fleas can live along baseboards and in blankets in the house. It is recommended to use a product that will go into the skin, and therefore the dandruff that falls off your animals will contain the drug, and kill fleas around your house. Revolution is one such product. You can ask your vet about other products that work this way. You will need to use the product for at least 3 treatments (usually 2-4 weeks apart), to kill the various life-stages of the flea, as there is NO product that will kill the eggs. In the future, you will need to use prevent every month (or ask your vet about some chewable products that last 3 months), as the fleas will come back if you aren't treating. If you got fleas once they live in the environment where your house is, so you need to prevent them from coming inside by using monthly prevention. In terms of your house, you will need to wash all the bedding and dog beds or anything material they lie on in very hot water, and vaccuum well throughout the house, and especially along the baseboards of the house.   Ideally, a topical or oral flea preventative should be used for at least three consecutive months, preferably year round.
  Inside, you will need to vacuum everywhere the dog has been and dispose of the bag outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric. Use an area treatment, such as Knockout ES, to prevent future reinfestation. These products are generally safe for pets once they are dry.
  Treating or preventing fleas outdoors is much trickier due to the presence of other pets and wildlife. Contact a local pest control company for the most effective, yet safe, options.

  You can use an oral preventive such as Bravecto, or a topical such as Frontline Plus or Advantage II. You can discuss options with your veterinarian.
  Whichever you decide on, use it for at least 3 consecutive months to break the flea life cycle. Year round use is recommended.
  Additionally, you will need to treat the environment. This includes vacuuming everywhere. Dispose of the bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately afterwards. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric and dry in the dryer. Use an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout ES, to prevent reinfestation.
