My dog has a fever, is lethargic, and weak. Should I see a vet?

It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam and determine what additional testing may need to be done (xrays, bloodwork) to give you a better idea of what treatments are needed. Good luck.

Poor Cobalt! It sounds like he is lethargic, and he does have a slight fever. Unfortunately these are very general signs of illness, and could be caused by systemic illness, infection, or inflammation. I would keep an eye on him for now, and if the fever goes above 39.5, he stops eating, he continues to be lethargic, or he develops other signs such as vomiting, take him into a vet immediately. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mini. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian today. I am worried that she is not eating. This will rapidly lead to dehydration in a small dog. The veterinarian will examine her and determine what may be the cause of her symptoms. She could be painful or be experiencing nausea. From there, treatment and diagnostics can be discussed. Any animal that has a drastic change in behavior is probably sick and should see a vet. Baby may have a fever but without taking her temperature there is no way to know. I suggest you have her to your vet for an exam.

It sounds like BeR is not feeling well. Just like people, there are many conditions that can make pets feel sick. This could range from bacterial over growth to intestinal blockage. Also like us, diseases are best addressed early and this may result in a better prognosis. You need to monitor your pup closely. If he is not eating or drinking well, if there is vomiting/diarrhea/coughing or signs of pain, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian today. If the lethargy lasts for 24 hours, your pup also needs to be examined. The doctor will need to learn the underlying cause in order to give appropriate treatment. Bring in a stool sample in case the doctor needs to test it. At home, your pup should rest today so no walks or playtime. Encourage eating and drinking. Fluid intake is very important when pets and people don't feel good. You may try offering a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice (this should all be plain). Poor girl. Vomiting more than 1-2 times and lethargy are major concerns for an internal illness such as kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatitis or even a viral infection. It is imperative that you take Baby to your local vet for diagnostic testing to determine what her internal illness is so that we know how to best help her. Anything you give her by mouth will likely be vomited back up, so I would not recommend offering her anything but water and getting her to a vet asap. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mags! Can you take her temperature rectally? Anything 103 F or higher is a fever. Causes of a fever are: Lyme disease, immune conditions, infection (urinary, joint, lung) or pending GI upset. If she isn't better by the morning she should be seen by your Vet. I wish you the best!
