What's the ideal daily feeding frequency for my 1-year-old dog?

If you can only feed her once daily because that is the only time that is good for you or the only time she will eat then that is fine! Just be sure she eats slowly and doesn't run around or play hard for an hour after she eats. Not all German Shepherds bloat. My lab growing up was only fed at night too and he did fine! It really boils down to owner's preference and convenience like you state but I always like twice daily feedings. It gives you an opportunity to quickly assess their appetite and any changes that may occur with it which could indicate something is wrong. Smaller meals divided into 2 feedings are more easily digestible rather than one large meal, in my opinion. Free feeding can lead to obesity problems so strict attention must be made as to the amount that the pet has access to each day. Obesity is a very common problem in pets just as in people. Many vets recommend to feed puppies more frequently to avoid issues with low blood sugar. Some puppies are not able to regulate their blood sugar very well until they are four months old. After four months old almost all dogs can regulate their blood sugar and so feeding twice a day is fine. Many dogs eat twice a day even as puppies and do fine. It’s all individual. Once daily or twice daily feeding is fine, whichever makes them happy and works into your schedule. There are a few medical disorders that may require changes to the feeding schedule but if they are healthy it is unnecessary to change it up now! The only thing I would avoid is free-feeding, where they have constant access to a food bowl, as dogs (Beagles in particular!) can often over-eat and become obese quite easily.

When he is six months of age, you can feed him twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. He should be fed a puppy food until he is one year of age. Small breed puppies should be fed a small breed puppy diet and should eat 2x daily.
