My dog just got spayed. How soon can I feed her after surgery?

Great question! In general, there should be no reason that you would need to change her diet after her spay. She may not be as hungry as usual this evening since she may be sore and still a bit sleepy from the anesthesia, so I would suggest feeding her about half of her normal dinner tonight. Starting the following day, it should be fine for her to go back to her normal amount of food :)

The onesies may be uncomfortable or stressful for her. Try taking them off at feeding time. Watch her closely though so she doesn't get to her incision. You can also warm her food slightly or mix in a teaspoon of plain baby food to stimulate the appetite.

Hello and thank you for your question. Masha my hold her bowels for 24 hours without a lot of problem. She should have urinate within 12 hours. Call the veterinarian and ask if they took her out to urinate. That will give you an idea of time. Also ask if she received IV fluids during the procedure. Pets that get these fluids often don't really drink at home that first night because their body go fluids. Do make sure to discuss the urination as well. As long as she is under the influence, she probably won't go to the bathroom but still take her out every couple hours and give her to opportunity. If there is a favorite spot to go that is not a walk to get to, go there first. Offer her half her normal amount of food tonight and don't be too worried if she doesn't eat. Sometimes when cats wake up from surgery, they are very disoriented, and they can stumble around the cage. She could have accidentally hurt herself waking up from anesthesia. Without being there or seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, but I would give your vet a call to ask if they know why these bald spots have appeared. I would monitor her eye. Given that she is recovering from anesthesia, her behavior may be off. If she is still having problems with squinting in 48 hours, I would have her seen by a vet. It's better to wait until evening to feed her, as feeding her too soon after surgery and anesthesia may upset her stomach. I would follow the instructions from your vet.

I'm not sure how long ago Xenon was spayed, and while you would expect some lethargy and decreased appetite the first 24-48 hours after surgery, the cat should start to perk up after that time.
