My dog has a fast-growing red-veined mass on her elbow. Is it cancer?

That's a good size growth. This could be benign or malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. Some possible causes of Fizz's mass could be benign or malignant masses (yes, cancer is a possibility), a granuloma, or cyst. In order to diagnose the type of lesion, Fizz should see her vet for an exam and fine needle aspirate (FNA) of the lesion. The FNA is performed by drawing a few cells from the lesion with a needle and then examining them microscopically. This will help your vet to determine the type of mass present and if surgical excision is necessary. I would have this lump on Laila checked out by a vet first. While it could be a cyst, there is always a chance it could be something more serious like a malignant tumor (although the chances are low in a young dog). It's also important to have any lump checked out by a vet to make sure it isn't something concerning. Should it be a cyst, an antibiotic ointment will not do anything for it, and I would only recommend warm compresses and cleaning it if the cyst was opened and draining. Do not try to pop it! Typically you can leave these cysts alone as long as it isn't bothering your dog and isn't getting bigger. I don't like the look of the red lump on his elbow. Sadly many things that are cancerous and benign can look the same. I would worry about a mast cell tumor by how red it looks but it could be many things. I would have him seen by your Vet and consider having a fine needle aspirate done of the mass to see if you can identify it. Then consider removing it. Maybe with a local block and light sedation if can be removed with minimal stress on him since he has defied the odds so far. I wish Bunkers the best!

This could be a seroma from an injury, a cyst, abscess or a tumor. Cysts and abscesses need to be drained by a vet. If your vet suspects a tumor, he will do a fine needle aspirate to determine whether it is a harmless lipoma, which does not need to be removed unless it is ulcerating or bothers the dog due to its location or size, or another tumor that needs to be removed. I hate to hear this is happening to your pup! I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. another common reason for a lesion like this is a foreign object trapped under the skin. Fox tails have a tendency to do this and generally need to be removed and the lesion lanced. Have this checked out soon. Protect the area from licking by having Dog wear an elizabethan collar at all times. I hope this helps.
