Why is my dog breathing fast, heart racing, bloating, drinking a lot?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 11 years and 1 month old | 8.82 lbs

My dog seen the vet today and came home. She's been breathing fast and fast heart rate since yesterday. Hb is 140 when sleeping. Usual is 60-80 n breathing 20. Her gums go from red to bright pink. Poops and pees tho she seems constipated. She's been bloating lately too. She'll stay that way for hours. Been to 2 docs and they sent her home saying she felt normal and was stable. She's also whines for water and drinks a lot! Hasn't vomited. Doesn't have diarrhea. Temp was normal.

Oh my. Poor girl! These symptoms are suggestive of a possible adrenal gland problem. Increased drinking, stomach bloating, tachycardia (increased heart rate) as well as tachypnea (increased respiratory rate) are common signs of Cushing disease, Pheochromocytoma and heart disease. I would highly recommend seeking yet another vets opinion about Twinklesa and get some actual tests ran on her. She needs baseline bloodwork (CBC, biochemistry) and radiographs of her abdomen and chest in order to diagnose her underlying condition. The results of those tests should be able to point the vet in the right direction towards her treatment. If she has already had those tests done and the vets are still unable to come up with a diagnosis, then I would recommend considering a referral to an internal specialists. Your vet should be able to send the referral through and get Twinkles seen within a weeks time.
I hope you get to the bottom of what is causing Twinkles symptoms and can get her the proper treatment soon. Best of luck!

A couple of dieases come to mind with the symptoms you are describing - diabetes and Cushing’s disease. Both of these can cause excessive drinking, a distended abdomen, and lethargy. The irritability Breezy is displaying is probably because she is just not feeling like herself. I would recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible. Your veterinarian will probably recommend running some lab work and possibly doing some X-rays to determine what is going on. Until you are able to get her to the vet try to keep her as calm and comfortable as possible. Offer her plenty of fresh water as long as she is not vomiting it up. My dog drinks, pees a lot, pants, and gained weight. What's wrong?

I would recommend having your dog seen as soon as possible if her symptoms are not improving tomorrow, even if this means taking her in to another vet or an emergency vet. Diseases we worry about with these symptoms include Cushings Disease (where the adrenal glands produce too much steroids), diabetes, kidney disease and liver disease. Some of these conditions can worsen quickly and become life threatening so having her examined and having bloodwork and urinalysis done as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause is the safest way to proceed.

My dog has trouble breathing and a bloated stomach, is it serious?

These symptoms can be caused by a variety of different problems, including heart disease, bloat (gastric dilatation and volvulus), liver disease, or internal bleeding. Many of these problems are extremely serious, so I would recommend taking Missy to your nearest emergency clinic immediately. The veterinarian there can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

My dog has shallow breathing, hard belly, and new lumps. What is it?

Poor girl. She could have congestive heart disease, cancer, cushings disease or any kind of organ enlargement in her belly. I would recommend starting with a good vet exam and then possible radiographs and bloodwork to get her checked out and hopefully find the underlying cause for her symptoms. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lady! I love your pictures! There are many possible reasons for Lady's symptoms. The heart rate is fine, it is normal to have a low resting heart rate at home. The fact it isn't high is reassuring that she isn't in pain or distress. The panting can be from: canine cognitive dysfunction or dementia, Cushing's disease, feels over heated and a lot of older large breed dogs just overall pant more. Causes for the bloated belly are: overweight (fat in belly), enlarged liver from Cushing's, low thyroid, tumor in her belly. I think a Vet exam, blood work and belly X-rays are a good idea to see if there is a medical reason for the symptoms you are seeing. I hope this helps and I wish Lady the very best!
