My Chihuahua has face swelling and jaw cysts. Is it an abscess?

Hello. This sounds like a Carnassial tooth root abscess ( 4th upper premolar ). This is a very common dental infection & usually means the tooth needs to be removed. At the very least, he definitely needs to be started on antibiotics & needs a good dental cleaning. Once done, these things tend to heal up very nicely. In a small dog, my first suspicion would be a tooth-root abscess. Small dogs tend to get rather diseased teeth as they age and are prone to infections like this. The other possibility is that he bumped his face on something. This is over a bony area that can swell with fluid when it hits something hard (i.e. door, chair, etc.). In this case, the swelling will eventually go down within two weeks or so. In order to tell exactly what it is, you'll have to take Teddy to a vet. They can take a sample of the fluid and help to narrow-down the possibilities. I hope that helps and Teddy gets better soon.

This is a severe infection that forms deep under the skin. It can be the result of a bite from another animal, a traumatic wound or even an infection in her mouth. It may be allergic reaction too, but it would be less likely. Lethargy and lack of appetite could be caused by fever and discomfort from the swelling. Please, take Taco to your nearest open vet for an appointment. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, your vet will recommend treatment, it will likely be a course of antibiotics and pain relief.

I suspect it may be a rapidly growing abscess. Tooth root abscesses usually result in swelling just below the eye. Please, clean the skin and the eye with boiled, warm water and cotton buds and make sure Yoda is not scratching or rubbing the face. Then take her to your local vets as soon as they open in the morning. If she looking very unwell or she is in a lot of pain, call your local emergency service tonight.

No this isn't a cold, it is either an injury or a tooth infection, it could also be a face abscess or an allergic reaction. you need to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.

I am suspicious that he has An abscess (infection). In that location it could be from a tooth, or some sort of trauma or migrating foreign object. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon. This likely needs antibiotics, and possibly surgery as well. In the meantime I would warm compress the area several times a day. This may encourage the abscess to drain which is what we want. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
