My dog's nipples are enlarged, but she's not pregnant. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 12 days old | 23.11 lbs

My pet's last 2 teats seem to have enlarged a bit over a month and she's not nursing or is pregnant. Do I need to worry?

It is difficult to say from the picture, it would be advisable to have a check up so that she can have general check up and also that she is checked for milk, as sometimes dogs can start producing milk as a result of a phantom pregnancy..
Having said this she is still very young so this normally happens after at least a couple of seasons ! I would say yo have her checked over to put your mind at rest ! All the best, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach !

Her nipples should be enlarged, but they shouldn't be bumpy. Without seeing her in person, I can't say that the appearance of her nipples is normal or not, so I would have her checked out by a vet to be safe.
