Can my dog eat human baby food like Gerbers puffs as treats?

I would recommend giving her only dog specific treats, no bones (cooked or uncooked), or rawhides. There's a wide variety of dog treats available, but I personally like dental treats, such as Greenies or Denta Chews. Do not give her any human foods, as many are toxic to dogs. Yes, homemade treats are fine. There are plenty of recipes you can find online on how to make homemade treats. All the ingredients you list are OK and there are MANY more. Just google some homemade treat recipes for dogs and go from there. Just be sure you are not feeding too many calories. A lot of treats are not good especially for small breed dogs. Look at the ingredients on the Gerber food. Make sure there are no onions, garlic, leeks or other vegetables in the same family as these. A few general recommendations: stick with well known brands with a good reputation. Look for products made in the USA. Kibble works great for treats and I use Purina Pro Plan chicken or lamb and rice. Dry biscuit type treats usually have less calories and salt. The jerky or moist type treats are fine in moderation (they have more calories and salt usually). Lastly, many dogs really like dehydrated chicken livers and chicken jerky. Yes, both of these foods are safe for dogs - there's no reason that you couldn't give them every day, in small amounts as a treat. Just make sure that you're not using a sugar-free brand of peanut butter, as some of these contain xylitol which is toxic for dogs. Most "regular" peanut butter brands are fine :)

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a chocolate coating but that volume of chocolate is not enough to be toxic to a mastiff. Even though a Toffee Pop isn't toxic for a dog it is sugary. Dogs shouldn't get sweet treats as they can get cavities just like people and they do not brush their teeth. It would be best to provide Big Foot more nutritious treats appropriate for dogs. Have a great day!
