My dog is dry heaving, not eating, and chewing grass. What's wrong?

Vomiting, drooling and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Peanut evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Joie! From your pictures Joie seems to be pretty sick. Causes for vomiting and lethargy in a young lab: foreign body ingestion where she ate something that is stuck in her stomach or intestines, a virus like Parvo virus especially if she is unvaccinated, intestinal parasites, toxins, etc. It is probably best to have her seen as an emergency today. You can try to fast her: no food (and no grass) for 12 hours. Hold on water for 4 hours and if no vomiting offer ice cubes. If she continues to vomit while being fasted she should see a Vet today. If the vomiting subsides then starting tomorrow do "sip and nibble" of water and a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals. Feed 3 cups total per day. If she restarts vomiting with food then she should see your Vet. Good luck!!

I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. They should be avoided. It is likely that if these are stopped, Pepper will be just fine. He is adorable! Good luck and have a good day!

Lameness can be due to discomfort possibly due to arthritis or something else. This may be related or perhaps may be unrelated and another issue. Lyme disease is a possibility though this is not very common. I recommend that you have Jakey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Lethargy (weakness and not moving/being lazy) for 3 days, and vomiting up something from a few days ago (if you don't have grass, when did she last access grass?) is very concerning for either an obstruction or blockage of the gut, or a severe gastritis. Also, since Chihuahuas are so small, they get dehydrated very quickly and can get very very sick just from dehydration. I would recommend going to your vet right away. They will likely do bloodwork and x-rays and will let you know if Lucy needs to stay in hospital for IV fluids, and possible surgery. Best of luck with Lucy, I hope she feels better soon!

Hello, and thanks for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Sirius may have an upset stomach. Keep an eye on his stools - you may be seeing some diarrhea in the next day or two. I recommend feeding him small amounts of bland food today (white rice and boiled lowfat chicken). If you see any further vomiting, if his appetite decreases, or if diarrhea shows up, then I recommend bringing him in to the vet to be evaluated. He may need some supportive GI meds to turn around, or this could be the first sign of something more serious, such as a foreign body (something stuck in his GI tract), pancreatitis, etc. Hope this helps and he feels better soon!
