What are these dry, flaky patches on my dog's face? Vet needed?

Judging by your description, it sounds as though Shiloh may have a skin infection or seborrheic dermatitis possibly. Without pictures and not being able to examine the area myself, it is difficult to say for sure. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Shiloh so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are describing could be due to allergies or a skin infection. I would recommend starting a shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly. I would also recommend welactin omega 3 fish oil, essential 6 spot on by dermoscent and malacetic conditioning spray. This is suspicious of ringworm (a fungal infection of the skin). This could also be due to a yeast or bacteria infection. It's best to get it diagnosed by a veterinarian, because ringworm can spread to different parts of the body and can spread to people. Also, the more involved the infection, the longer it will take to clear. For now, I recommend washing your hands anytime you touch Rexi. Any time we have areas of hair loss it is recommended that your dog be examined by a vet. From one photo it looks like we could either have dandruff or epidermal collarettes which are a sign of bacterial infecition of the skin. The pinpoint white areas could be pustules (from bacteria) or calcinosis cutis which can be see with some endocrine diseases. The vet will examine Max and may recommend some testing to check for bacteria or parasites or endocrine diseases. Treatment will depend on their findings.

I am assuming that this is a dog? The areas of hair loss on the skin could be caused my a multitude of problems, but most common would be something called demodex. Demodex is a mite that is present mostly in very young dogs or dogs with immune suppression from other conditions. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They may recommend a skin scrape to look for mites. Sometimes even if they aren’t found a trial therapy is still recommended. Best of luck and I hope they resolve quickly. This could also be a skin infection. I would recommend using a product called Sentry Wound Ointment from PetCo and apply to the area until resolved. There are some things that you can do at home if you are unable to get to a vet right away. I would suggest starting with a shampoo that is medicated such as Duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination and bathe him twice weekly until the infection is resolved. I would also suggest starting welactin omega-3 fish oil and essential 6 Spot On by dermoscent. If there is no improvement then I would see your vet for further testing and treatments.
