Is dry, crackling skin around my dog's neuter incision normal?

I would not recommend cleaning the incision. You can take a dry towel and gently spat dry the incision. I would monitor Snoopys incision for any discharge , swelling or smell. If this occurs I would recommend taking Snoopy into the vet to have the incision re checked. Hope that helps

Your picture is a bit blurry but it looks like Charlie might be having a reaction to the suture. I would recommend having your vet examine the incision to make sure there are no signs of infection. If he is having a reaction to the suture underneath the skin as it dissolves then no specific treatment may be necessary.

Although there is some bruising around the area this is quite normal and the wound looks to be clean, sealed and dry at this stage. Continue to monitor for any gaping or discharge from the wound but this is quite unlikely at this stage

It looks like it could be an area of minor infection or irritation. Place the e-collar (cone) back on him for a few more days. Keep the area clean and dry. This may enough to allow for healing. If not, gently clean the area with diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens). Dry it thoroughly afterwards. A dab of a triple antibiotic ointment can be applied. Aloe can be used as long as the e-collar is in place. If he were to lick it and ingest the aloe vera gel, it could cause stomach upset.

Based on the photo, it does not appear to be infected or overly swollen. There is likely some discomfort from the incision healing (itchiness) and pain from the procedure. If you believe that the pain is not well controlled, I would reach out to your veterinarian to discuss additional pain medications. Continue to monitor for any signs of infection such as discharge, swelling and redness. I hope this helps!

The incision looks good, it's healing normally and it is sealed. It looks like there might be some dirt on the incision. I don't like to scrub this but you can take a wet cloth and gently wipe the dirt off. Once it's clean apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment. In most cases these will heal by themselves (rest is helpful!) but continue to monitor for any bleeding, pain or discharge/ps from the wound which would require further treatment. If he is licking the wound, an E collar is recommended to prevent further trauma and possible infection
