Should I worry if my dog drinks from a water bowl squirrels use?

It is very unlikely that this will be a problem. She may vomit or have some diarrhea, as gastroenteritis (inflammation of the GI tract) may result. If she vomits more than once, or if the diarrhea lasts longer than a day, is very watery, or becomes bloody, or if she becomes lethargic, take her to your vet. No, I would not expect this to cause any problems. :) It's quite common for dogs to encounter dead squirrels and other animals, and they often pick up carcasses and carry them around, or even eat parts of them without any serious issues. There are really no diseases or other issues that your girl could pick up from the scenario you describe here, so you shouldn't need to worry.

I don't think her health will improve once you change to bottle water, but she will not be at risk of getting infections that may be caused by drinking tap water.

Small rodents and squirrels are almost never found to have rabies, so I wouldn’t be too worried. However, it would be a good idea in general to make sure Bobby is kept up to date on his rabies vaccine so he’s protected if he has any future encounters with wildlife!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some cats do prefer to drink from running water so a pet fountain may be a good idea. But if she is drinking more than usual a visit to the vet is needed for possible bloodwork to rule out things like kidney disease.

Most likely Stella will be ok. There are some bacteria associated with water such as Leptospirosis. If she has any vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, weakness or pain Stella should get examined by her veterinarian.
