My puppy drank whiskey. Should I worry if she seems fine now?

This may cause some GI upset which may result in vomiting and/or diarrhea. If it is limited to a couple of bouts and she's back to normal in 12 hours or so, you don't need to worry. Just keep an eye on her for the next 12-24 hours, and if she develops vomiting or diarrhea that is severe or continuous, or if she becomes increasingly lethargic, seek emergency care.

I've searched the literature, and I can't find much evidence to suggest that this is a serious exposure. The equivalent amount of a higher proof alcohol likely would be, but as most wine is only 7 - 9% alcohol, and Zeke is a medium-sized dog, I think you're likely to not see much if anything in the way of effects. With liquids, inducing vomiting is typically ineffective more than 15 minutes after ingestion, and giving activated charcoal also isn't indicated. I'd monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst and urination, and unsteadiness, and take him in on emergency if you see those signs.

Your dog licking a very small amount of alcohol should not cause him any serious harm, although depending on the alcohol content it may cause him to become slightly drunk. This can cause wobbliness/ataxia, lethargy, vomiting. If you notice any of these signs, he should be seen by a veterinarian. The problem is the alcohol. Signs of alcohol toxicity are drooling, retching, vomiting or attempting to vomit, weakness, elevated heart rate, a distended stomach, collapse, coma hypothermia and in severe intoxication cases, death. Alcohol enters the blood stream very quickly, and once it is in the blood stream the only thing you can do is wait it out, ie wait until it is out of his system. Keep Cooper confined and watch him closely. If he shows any of the signs above or if he gets white mucus membranes, he needs to be taken to a pet ER. If you live close to a pet ER, you can take him there and the vets can make him vomit and thus get rid of the rest of the vodka still in the stomach and they may give activated charcoal to neutralise the alcohol in the stomach.

Hello, thank you for your question. Labs can be so mischievous! Based on your description I think that your dogs should be ok. If dogs ingest a large amount of alcohol they can experience side effects. However I believe that the small amount should not cause sever symptoms. I would recommend monitoring your dogs overnight, if at anytime they became unsteady on their feet or weak I would have them seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

A small one shouldn't cause Bella any problems. It would be concerned if it was a large one, as large amounts of the alcohol would cause immediate problems, usually within 30 minutes. You don't need to do anything but make sure she doesn't eat any more! I hope this helps!
