My dog has severe diarrhea and won't eat. Is it time for euthanasia?

I am so sorry for this sad news. I would call your vet and see if they can give her any fluids to help hydrate her and get her started on an appetite stimulate. They could also possibly give her an infection of cerenia or Zofran which are great to help with nausea and vomiting. Unfortunately, she may need something to help with the nausea so she feels better and more willing to eat and drink. If you can figure out a way to make her eat and get the pred in her, it will make her feel better. The vet may even have an injectable form of prednisone or some other type of steroid that could be beneficial if you can't get the oral type in her. If these things don't work and you don't want to take her to an oncologist, then I would conisder her quality of life and euthanasia may be the best option for her. The tests that are pending also may be helpful so we will just have to patiently wait for those results. I would be sure she has been dewormed even if the stool tests were negative, have a B12, folate, TLI and PLI blood test done, have her tested for Addison's disease, try her on a prescription hydrolyzed diet like Royal Canin HP or Purina HA and then I would consider taking her to surgery or getting endoscopic biospies of her stomach and intestines to rule out IBD, lympangectasia and lymphoma. Tylosin and a probiotic is worth a try too. I think there are many other things to do before euthanasia. I hope this helps and I wish Kai the best of luck!

Please take Max to the veterinarian. Let them know your financial restrictions but this could be something easily treatable such as parasites or gastritis. If it is something more involved theb discuss your concerns with maxes veterinarian and euthanasia may be a reasonable option. I’m sorry to hear Molly isn’t feeling well. Making the decision to euthanize your pet is never easy. I recommend thinking about her quality of life. Is she able to do the important things like go out to go potty, eating, and drinking? Does she still enjoy the things she used to- playing with a toy, greeting you at the door, going for car rides? If you have more no’s than yes’s then her quality of life is not there. If you have done all the testing you can do to find the cause of her illness and you haven’t found something to make her more comfortable, it may be in her best interest to let her go. Pets typically do not pass peacefully at home. Euthanizing her is very humane and is sometimes the nicest thing you can do for your pet. I hope this helps aid your decision. Kisses to Molly!!

Acute vomiting and diarrhea, especially with poor appetite and lethargy, are certainly cause for concern. This could be caused by an infection, something stuck in Max's intestines, or a metabolic problem. At the veterinarian, they will examine him and probably take x-rays and run some lab work to look for the underlying cause of Max's issues. I wouldn't wait very long to go to the vet since Max is so young and small and so can become dehydrated quickly. See if you can get in for an exam today.

It seems as Max is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Oh no, I'm so sorry that Santeri is so sick! I work for a home euthanasia service, so I face this question all the time with my clients. I suggest making a list of five things Santeri loved to do. If he's not doing at least two of them, then his quality of life has decreased to a point where humane euthanasia should be considered. It's always a hard decision to make, but if he has a poor quality of life, letting him go peacefully would be a great kindness.
