My dog has diarrhea after new food. Is oatmeal safe or what to feed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hello! We gave our Maggie a can of soft dog food. Alpo. Anyways she has had diarrhea a few times and acts like she just doesn't feel good. I made her some plain oatmeal and she ate that good. How often can I give her oatmeal and is this the right thing to do?

It sounds like the Alpo upset Maggie's stomach. I can give you a bland diet that will be better for her than oatmeal. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Hopefully, this helps clear up her diarrhea :-)
