My dog coughs when barking, but seems okay. Does she need a vet?

It could be kennel cough, scratch in the throat from chewing on hard objects or swelling in the throat from being stung in the throat by an insect. As long as your dog is acting as normal, eating food and keeping it down you should monitor him at home. Kennel cough symptoms usually resolve within 7-10 days without treatment. However, if your dog continues to cough or becomes lethargic and off food, you should get him checked by your local vets.

Hello, it sounds like Eclaire is overall getting better. The wet cough may be a red herring. As long as her over all health is improving and continues to do so, then you do not need to bring her back to her veterinarian. When it is viral instead of bacterial in nature, it does not need antibiotics and usually self resolves though sometimes there is a need for cough suppressants. I would recommend to continue to monitor Lily for now. If she develops a cough or any other symptoms such as lethargy or inappetence to have her evaluated then. Usually if you keep her quiet and she continues eating and drinking she should get over this without treatment in a week or so. If the coughing worsens or she stops eating or becomes lethargic then bring her in for an exam and treatment. They will probably give her antibiotics and perhaps something to stop the coughing.
