What causes constant diarrhea in my 8-month-old Lab on sensitive food?

Baylee is adorable! The most common reason that we will see diarrhea in a puppy is some type of intestinal parasite. You didn't mention if your vet has checked a stool sample, but puppies can commonly have intestinal parasites. Some are microscopic, so the only way to know that they have them is for your vet to look under the microscope. And even if a puppy has been dewormed, it is common for them to have other intestinal parasites since there are no many different types of parasites and they each require a specific type of deworming. So, my first recommendation is to have your veterinarian do a fecal check on Baylee, then decide on any other treatment. You didn't mention if she had normal stool (or any stool) on the chicken and rice diet. Generally, I recommend continuing chicken and rice until they have been passing normal stool for 48 hours, then start a gradual transition back to the normal diet. If Baylee is sensitive to food changes, you may only be able to change 10% of her food each day, so it may take 10 days to completely transition her food to prevent GI upset. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. There are anti-diarrheal medications that your veterinarian can prescribe. Sometimes puppies need a probiotic for their intestinal tract depending on their age and diet history, so be sure to talk to your veterinarian about that as well. I would wonder if Shadow is developing some sort of food allergy or perhaps inflammatory bowel disease. I would recommend to talk to Shadow's doctor about a food trial for Shadow. This would be the best way to know if the diarrhea is related to food. I would also recommend to supplement him with probiotics more frequently as this helps to maintain a good GI flora. The doctor may also want to check blood values and maybe even an x-ray to rule out other causes of chronic diarrhea.

Honey's diarrhea could be due to food intolerance/sensitivity, chronic parasites like Giardia, IBD or even something in her small intestine like a pancreas issue. Most of these potential causes requires some type of lab test to diagnose so I recommend she be examined by her veterinarian. Sometimes a diet change is needed, other times medication.

About 75% of the time ongoing diarrhea in puppies is related to intestinal parasites or diet. So have your veterinarian ensure he does not have any parasites including giardia. If he is negative and has been properly dewormed, I should start him on a prescription low fat diet that is highly digestible. I use Purina ProPlan Veterinary Diets EN as it is safe for use in growing puppies. If this diet does not resolve the diarrhea, he may require a diet for a food allergy such as a hydrolyzed formula. Poor Dylan! If he has a sensitive stomach and gets diarrhea easily, he may benefit from a prescription GI diet that is bland and easy to digest, or a hypoallergenic limited ingredient diet such as Hills z/d or Purina HA - I would suggest talking to your vet about these options to see if he/she feels that they might be helpful. It's also possible that Dylan has some other underlying medical issue causing the recurring diarrhea, such as intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, Addison's disease, etc. I would recommend having a full check-up done by your vet if this hasn't been done in the past - he/she can do blood work or other testing if needed to check for these problems and get him started on appropriate treatment if needed.

It depends on the cause of the diarrhea. He could have intestinal worms, a food intolerance, in issue called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) in which the pancreas doesn't make digestive enzymes. You'll need to start with a vet visit to rule out parasites and try to get his gut settled down. You could also run bloodwork to check for EPI, however we generally wait to see if other methods get the diarrhea under control first. Good luck! I know this is a frustrating issue

I hate to hear this is happening. Any dogs with chronic diarrhea that does not respond to OTC diets needs to be examined by the veterinarian. She may have a parasite, a bacterial issue or she may need a prescription diet meant for dogs with dietary intolerance or food allergy. Blonca will need some diagnostics.
