Why is my dog chewing his leg when I can't see what's wrong?

Dogs who have neurologic pain to their appendages or if they have a numb type sensation will often cause themselves extreme self trauma. I would highly encourage you to discuss using the medication Gabapentin with your veterinarian. This can be really good for neurologic pain/sensations. Poor Bowie. There could be several things going on from localized demodectic mange, a local yeast infection, ring worm, a bacterial infection, anxiety and much more. I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him so they can determine the cause and start him on the proper meds to help. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chop. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. I cannot tell from the picture if there is a mass or a wound on his leg. His veterinarian will examine him and may shave the surrounding hair to better evaluate the area. Based on these results, treatment can be started to help him feel better.
