My dog chews everything but toys. Are chew sticks safe & how many?

I never recommend antlers because they do break teeth, and rawhides pose a chocking and intestinal blockage risk. Bully sticks are fine as long as you watch your dog when he eats it, and the Nylabone Petsafe Wood Chew is fine too. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about Matilda. For Ginger, in general it is ok for her to pick up sticks. As you mentioned so many dogs do this and are just fine. On a rare occasion a stick can get stuck in the dogs mouth and need immediate medical attention, but this is pretty rare. It would be safer for you to redirect ginger to appropriate puppy play and chew toys that are in your house while she is going thru this teething puppy phase

Hello, actually wood is not the best for your dog. This can lead to splinters and foreign objects that I've seen end up in tracheas, esophagus, stomach, lungs, free floating in the chest or abdomen, or causing major injury to the oral cavity (teeth and gums). If you are going to give Donut a chew toy, I would recommend a Kong toy. You can find these online or at your local pet store. These are better for their teeth and durable. Some dogs just have a preference with what toys/items they like to play with or chew on. If he is a stick lover, then you can try to find a similar dog toy for his to play with instead that will satisfy his oral fixation. You can also look into some dental chews for his, such as the Virbac dental chews, which can last him a little bit and get him focused on something else. The exception to this would be any necessary pre-anesthetic bloodwork if the dog were to be anesthetized. Hard toys such as the antlers and Nyla bones can fracture teeth in dogs. So be careful for any aggressive chewing. However, they are durable toys that the dog is less likely to break off a piece and swallow. This becomes an emergency surgery if the toy becomes lodged in the stomach or intestines. So they are safer options in that regard. Rotating toys will give your dog more variety and not force you to buy new ones frequently. I recommend leaving two toys out at a time and then rotate a new one in every couple of weeks. Even if your dog has seen it before, it will seem new to him again. I hope this information helps!

The pig ears and chicken sticks typically have a lot of preservatives in them and can cause GI upset. I usually recommend the Kong toys filled with peanut butter or dental chew sticks like Oravet or Greenies. If Honey does ok with the chews you are giving her now, then in moderation these should be ok to give her every now and then.
