My dog has chest and throat mucus. Is there pet store medicine?

Hi, is there a medicine i can buy from my local pet store to relieve mucus from chest, and throat of my 8 year old staff

Thank you for submitting your question. I am concerned your dog has an upper respiratory infection giving the mucus you are describing. There are not any over-the-counter products that I would recommend. If her symptoms are not resolving, she will need to see her veterinarian. In the meantime, you can try running hot water from the shower and letting the steam build up in the bathroom. She can breathe the steam for a few minutes several times per day. This can help relieve mild congestion. If she is not eating well or acting lethargic, she should see her veterinarian soon. I hope this helps!

I think it's a good idea to get Precious checked out again if the coughing is returning. Sometimes it's an infection and other times it persistent inflammation. The doctor may recommend a medication to break up mucus and/or decrease inflammation. Why is my dog coughing and throwing up white mucus for days?

He could have an upper respiratory infection, lower respiratory infection (pneumonia) or even something stuck in his throat. Since it has been 4 days already I would recommend getting Mocho seen by your vet for a proper exam of his mouth, throat and chest sounds to determine which is likely. If he does have an upper respiratory infection then antibiotics will be recommended to help clear up his infection. My dog is choking and snorting. Can I give her guaifenesin for phlegm?

Considering the amount of medications and her current health issues, I would strongly urge you to call her primary veterinarian to ask this question. While it is quite possible that she has phlegm, I would also be concerned about issues related to the possible mass or other disease process going on in her respiratory system. Since guafenasin is not a commonly used medication in healthy animals, I am reluctant to recommend its use in your dog's case since I am not aware of all of her medical history.

My dog has kennel cough, still congested after 3 weeks. What next?

Hello. After 3 weeks I would be a little concerned as to why Tristan is not any better. I would not use the Mucinex as this can dry out the secretions & actually make things worse. If your veterinarian has not done chest x-rays, this would be the very next step to see if there is something else going on. In the meantime, I would try doing some steam therapy with him.
