My dog has cancer, won't eat, and vomits. What food can I give her?

I'm so sorry to hear the Cooper has cancer. I understand your concern. There is no blanket answer to your question though. He may be nauseated so taking a medication like Zofran (ondansetron) daily may be helpful. Ask your vet about using that. You know him best so just give him anything he wants to eat. You can try human baby food (meat flavors) often that works. Dogs also like Hill's a/d that you can get from your vet and it is very high in calories so they don't have to each much to take in more calories. I do think it is best to consult with your vet on this issue since they have all of his medical history. It is hard for me to comment without all the facts. I hope you understand.

I am so sorry for this sad news. I would call your vet and see if they can give her any fluids to help hydrate her and get her started on an appetite stimulate. They could also possibly give her an infection of cerenia or Zofran which are great to help with nausea and vomiting. Unfortunately, she may need something to help with the nausea so she feels better and more willing to eat and drink. If you can figure out a way to make her eat and get the pred in her, it will make her feel better. The vet may even have an injectable form of prednisone or some other type of steroid that could be beneficial if you can't get the oral type in her. If these things don't work and you don't want to take her to an oncologist, then I would conisder her quality of life and euthanasia may be the best option for her. If he is unable to eat and is vomiting everytime he eats, then you need to consider his quality of life. I would recommend a visit to a vet to discuss if a feeding tube can be placed and if that would be the best decision for Gunner or not. If he is vomiting, not eating, and sick, then you may need to consider and discuss euthanasia. I know this is very difficult, however it is important to talk to your vet about quality of life, and different options for Gunner. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marko. I am sorry to hear about his diagnosis. If he is still eating, drinking and acting like himself, then that seems like a good quality of life. This will likely change as his disease progresses though. In the meantime, you can see about trying a different anti-vomiting medication on him. Cerenia would be a good choice. This may control the vomiting better and help him feel a bit better. I hope this information helps!

I am so sorry about the diagnosis for you and Diamond. This is a cancer of the blood so it can go anywhere. Typically without chemotherapy and only prednisone the survival time is 30-60 days. You can try low fat yogurt, lean ground beef, turkey, chicken and rice and baby food. Typically they will feel nauseated and sick and will not have an appetite towards the end. The swelling from the lymph nodes can interfer with their comfort and breathing. They will drop weight drastically. When they are too weak to walk anymore and have no appetite or keep vomiting then it will be time for you to discussed euthanasia and quality of life with your vet.

Poor Millie! Chemo does make a dog quite nauseous, and that would cause her to not want to eat and excessively drool. I would speak to your vet to see if they can prescribe her an appetite stimulant. You can also try offering her some tasty food, such as boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice, or try soaking her dry food on gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth.

I'm really sorry to hear about Chloe. I know how hard it is to see a friend suffering with this disease. Cancer that affects the liver can be caused by many different types of cancer, so I cannot advise on treatment for this without knowing the type of cancer. It is best that you have this discussion with your veterinarian. They would be able to find out what cancer it is by taking a sample of the tumor and sending it to the lab. The diet also depends on how well the liver is functioning. Again, your veterinarian would be able to tell you this after analyzing the blood chemistry. For now, feed whatever the veterinarian has advised. A switch in diet can be dangerous depending on how well the liver is functioning. I know this is a very difficult time and you have many questions, but your veterinarian will have the most information and be the best to answer them at this time. For now, try to stay positive and know that you have at-least given Chloe almost 10 years of a great life.
