My dog with cancer is lethargic, off balance, lumps changed. Emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 120 lbs

12 year old black lab pit bull cross. Diagnosed by our vet with cancer after a biopsy was done on one of the hard lumps on her throat. This morning when I got up the once hard lumps are all either squishy or gone, she’s lethargic and off balance so she’s walking funny, and she won’t even drink water. What does this mean for my dog? I know she’s dying of cancer but does she need emergency care right now or is this the normal next step?

Cancerous masses can become necrotic (rotten) as they continue to grow and outgrow their blood supply. This could be one possible explanation for the change in the masses. The imbalance could suggest that the cancer has spread to the brain or it could be unrelated to the cancer (eg old dog vestibular disease). Either way, this is an uncomfortable situation for Mercedes and I recommend you take her to see a veterinarian right away.

Based on your description, I would recommend having Mercedes examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This could potentially be vestibular disease in (old dog disease) in which the balance system is off. This is a self limiting disease but the symptoms may persist for multiple days. There may be a neurological component to these symptoms so it would be best to have this assessed by a veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! i am afraid these could be benign or malignant tumors. Since Nealy is an older dog, this is not uncommon. Lipomas (fatty tumors, usually benign, they can actually be hard) or mast cell tumors come to mind when looking at your photos. It could also be a very extreme allergic reaction to possibly a shampoo at the groomers. 1) do not panic 2) make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. He will likely want to take a so-called FNA (Fine Needle Biopsy) where he takes a small amount of tissue through an injection needle, puts this on a glass plate and looks at it under the microscope. This will give your vet an idea what he is dealing with. He may also send this material to a lab to be examined. Once you and dyour veterinarian know what type of mass you are dealing with , you can discuss treatment plans.

My 13-year-old dog has sore, growing lumps. Are they cancer?

With any new lump or lump that is changing, it is always best to have your veterinarian look at them and a fine needle aspirated can be done to obtain a sample of cells. If these cells look suspicious of a malignancy, then your vet can recommend surgery. From the photos that you have posted, my guess is that these may be benign, non-cancerous masses. These can still cause problems, though, by bleeding and getting infected. I would schedule Max for an exam at your earliest convenience so that you and your vet can weigh the pros and cons of surgery since he is a senior.

Why is my dog lethargic, vomiting blood, and has a nipple lump?

I would recommend that Linda see a vet. The lump may or may not be related to her other signs but vomitting and diarrhea with lethargy can become serious quickly in small breed dogs. Blood in her stool and brown vomitus indicates bleeding in her GI tract so she may be at risk of anemia as well as dehydration. She should be seen asap if she is still vomitting or lethargic and depressed. And mammary cancer is more likely to occur in unspayed females so the lump should be checked out as well. I hope Linda is feeling better soon.

My dog has a swollen, oozing neck mass & is lethargic. Emergency?

I am sorry to hear about Lucky. If he is very lethargic as you describe then I think he should be seen before Monday and I would advise taking him to the emergency vet if your regular vet is not open. It is possible he has an abscess if this area appeared quite quickly and when it opened up there is pus involved. He may need an antibiotic to treat the infection.

Dog has growing lump, drinks more, and is lethargic. What's wrong?

So sorry she is having these problems. Drinking and urinating more can be a sign of kidney disease, Cushing's disease, diabetes, Addison's disease, infections, thyroid disease, etc. The only way to know the cause is to have a vet run some bloodwork and a urinalysis. The lump could be a cyst, infection, benign or cancerous mass. A needle aspirate or biopsy may be necessary to diagnose. She really needs to be examined by a vet. Try to find a low cost clinic in your area or a vet that would take a payment plan. You could also apply for Care Credit which is a veterinary credit care. Hope you can find her the help that she needs.

My senior dog has hard lumps and heavy breathing. What could it be?

I know it can be scary when thinking about possible cancerous masses in your pet. But really the only way to know for sure is to have these masses tested through your vet. They can be cancerous masses, inflammatory reactions or benign tumors (non-cancerous). The heavy breathing that Allie is doing does concern me a bit. This can either be a sign of pain or an underlying lung or heart disease. So a vet visit although no desired, is probably the bext best thing to do for Allie in figuring out what's going on with both concerns. Best of luck getting some answers and take care.
