My dog has bumps and is limping. What's wrong and what to do?

A black bump on the skin of a white dog is always concerning of melanoma. It's best to have a veterinarian evaluate Rambo sometime soon to get an accurate diagnosis. The dark skin can also happen with continual irritation, or when the tissue is dying. Unfortunately, the picture is not clear enough to differentiate between the two, but I would need to examine it more closely to help narrow-down the cause of this. Please make an appointment to have Tammh seen by a vet as soon as possible. She is likely in pain, and may have a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, a mass, or a foreign body in the leg. Your vet can assess the leg during the physical exam and may recommend x-rays to help determine the cause of Tammh’s limp. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Tammh without consulting with your vet.

A limp is always something to worry about. Limping is a sign of pain. Your dog may have an injured leg or paw, bone problems, a sprain, tendon and ligament problems, arthritis. The pimple may be a little abscess, cyst or a tumor *warts, e.g. are benign tumors). You should have it examined by your veterinarian. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning. Your vet can then examine the limp as well.

Given Rambo's age, it is less likely that he has a growth or mass of serious concern. However, without a fine needle aspirate or a biopsy of the lesion it is impossible to know. Given its appearance in the pictures, it looks like it was likely either some type of tumor or cyst that underwent too much pressure from fluid build up, and subsequently ruptured. In terms of treatment, you are doing most everything you can at home already. Some recommendations though: I would not use peroxide as this can actually delay the healing process I would not keep the area covered too closely or tightly as this can encourage reinfection I would instead place a cone or collar on Rambo to prevent licking or self-mutiation, as this still allows the area to be open to the air. In terms of what to do next or how to find out what you are seeing, you can do two different things. The first is simply wait and see what happens when the area heals. If it never grows back, great new! The second option would be to take him to the vet and try to obtain a sample for analysis. You can also wait to do this if you want when and if the lesion grows back.

This lump looks like it could be a cyst or other skin growth or tumor, and I doubt it is related to the limping. The limping more likely would be related to arthritis, previous trauma or other joint disease. I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian. They can examine the lump and may recommend taking a sample using a small needle to determine what it is. They can also examine Moose's leg and may recommend taking x-rays.

Being in pain will cause him to be tired too. The bumps may be due to hives. Taking him into the vet tomorrow if the best thing for him. I hope this helps!
