My dog has bumps on her back end that bleed when bumped. What to do?

This does not sound like a normal thing to happen in dogs, and I recommend that Binky see a vet for her skin issue. Your vet may do a skin scrape to look for mites, skin cytology to look for bacteria or yeast under a microscope, or bacterial or fungal cultures may be needed. Possible causes for bumps include fleas, mange, lice, infections (bacterial or yeast), ringworm, allergies, among others. I would recommend that Binky be on year-round flea prevention. While you await for your appointment, you can try a medicated shampoo like Dechra MalAcetic Ultra Shampoo, but be careful not to get it into her eyes. Also, think of any changes that have happened in the last few weeks, like changes in food, treats, medications, supplements, or household cleaners that could have had an effect on her skin.

That way JR can be prescribed antibiotics or other medication if necessary.

I'm glad to hear that he is on Advantage Multi because this makes a flea allergy seem less likely. However, many dogs are allergic to their foods or a host of environmental factors. From there, the vet will be able to prescribe medications (i.e. antibiotics, antifungals, anti-itch, etc.) to try to help Sly. Bathing him every other day could dry out his coat and remove normally present oils, which can make matters worse. I only recommend bathing this frequently when using certain prescription-based medicated shampoos. Under normal circumstances, try not to bathe him more than every 2-3 weeks. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the lesions should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. The most common reason by far for scabbing and dermatologic issues near the hind end and tail base is a flea bite dermatitis. If Dani is not currently protected by an flea / tick medication, I would recommend getting her on something right away. This is particularly important for a dog breed such as an English Bulldog due to their propensity for allergic reactions and underlying skin issues. If she is on a flea / tick preventative, I would carefully comb through her skin to make sure you aren't seeing any live or dead fleas present. If you are unable to find something, consider bringing in Dani to the veterinarian to be assessed, and possibly to have some diagnostics run such as a skin scraping or culture. If you are noticing an odor, it's might be infected. This bump could be an infected cyst, a foreign body trapped under the skin or a ruptured tumor.
