My dog has a bump. Is slow growth a sign it's benign after aspiration?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

Precious has had a bump since June. Its has only grown a little, she doesnt bother it & isnt having any other problems. Does this mean its a good chance of being benign? Tne needle aspiration came back as something the vet couldnt read but it was something of the same cell & tightly packed. If there were mast cells she would have seen & knew that right? It will be removed & tested but im still so scared. Shes my best friend Also since the needle yesterday its oval shaped instead of round. Why?

The fact that it has been growing slowly is good though it can still be a malignant tumor and removal would be recommended if there is no evidence of cancer spread to other organs. It probably changed in size and shape as a reaction to the aspiration. Given that it is so close to her mammary glands this may be a mammary tumor. Further recommendations would be made after it is removed and the biopsy read out. Good luck and have a great day!

My dog's recurring lump below her rib changed. Is it life-threatening?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pupsie! The growth is very large and I worry about the location. Since she isn't spayed I worry that the mass is associated with a mammary gland. Mammary gland masses can be cancerous or benign. The growth could also be a lipoma (fatty deposit) or a cyst. I highly recommend getting her in to your Vet to have it evaluated. Your Vet can discuss whether aspirating it is worth while or you should just schedule to have to removed and biopsied. My dog's soft lump got bigger. Should I take him to the vet again?

Many benign tumors will grow slowly over time. I always recommend repeating a fine needle aspirate if a mass grows quickly, changes texture or becomes red or painful. It does not sound like any of those things have occurred with Toodles, but I would certainly contact your vet to let them know that the mass has grown slightly, so they can look at the results of the previous aspirate and decide if there is any reason to repeat an aspirate of the mass.
